New Year's Kimono Show - Jan. 19, 2008 |
Japan Society presents New Year's Kimono Show In partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), the Japan Society presents a New Year’s Kimono Show with Nobuaki Tomita, a Kimono Stylist based out of Kyoto, Japan.
Tomita, one of Japane's most influential komono producers and stylist, will dress models in his original kimono, designed in styles seen throughout the ages; kimono of the kabuki theater, Taisho era, Showa era, as well as contemporary styles will be presented. Accompanied by professional kimono dresser, Kaoru Kumaki, Tomita will also demonstrate how kimono are made, fitted and worn. In addition, there will be a short dance performance by the Michiya Hanayagi Dance Company.
